AskWidget provides AI-powered chat assistants for business websites. This policy explains how we handle data when you interact with an AskWidget chatbot on any website.

What we collect

When you use an AskWidget chatbot, we process the messages you type in order to generate a response. We also collect basic usage data:

• Which website the chat occurred on
• The number of messages sent (for billing purposes)
• Your IP address (for rate limiting and abuse prevention)
• The date and time of the chat

What we do NOT collect or store

• We do not store the content of your chat messages on our servers
• We do not store your conversation history after your browser session ends
• We do not collect your name, email, or personal information unless you voluntarily provide it during the chat
• We do not use cookies or tracking scripts

How your messages are processed

Your messages are sent to our server, which forwards them to Anthropic's Claude AI to generate a response. Anthropic processes these messages under their API terms, which state that API inputs are not used to train their AI models. Messages are processed in real time and are not retained by our server after the response is delivered.

Conversation history

Your conversation is stored temporarily in your browser's memory so the chatbot can reference earlier messages in your current session. When you close the chat or leave the page, this history is gone. We do not have access to it.

Contact information you share

If you provide your name, phone number, or email during a chat (for example, when the chatbot offers to have someone follow up with you), that information is included in the AI's response to the business. We do not separately store or process this information.

Data shared with third parties

We use Anthropic's Claude API to process chat messages. We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to any other third parties. We do not use advertising networks or analytics trackers.

For business owners

If you are a business using AskWidget, we store your business configuration (services, hours, pricing, etc.) on our servers to power your chatbot. We do not share your business information with other clients or third parties.

Security

All communication between your browser, our servers, and the AI is encrypted via HTTPS. We follow standard security practices to protect our infrastructure.

Children

AskWidget is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent version.
